Google cached information
Retrieving Line6 lost forum threads via Google's cache
Line6 has removed the old forums, rendering tons of information inaccessible and probably destroyed. Some of that stuff was very entertaining and even downright useful. Thank you, Line6!
Some Flextone users have suggested that it might be useful to store the more interesting threads in a different place, safe from the Line6 support crowd who obviously don't care much about contributions made by users.
Enter Google. The Google cache is a wonderful thing. Information that was removed from a website, still hangs around there to be retrieved. One example is the old Line6 forum threads. Much of it can still be retrieved by finding the cached versions in Google. Of course it may not be kept in the cache forever, so you need to get to it in time.
How does this work? Well, just enter search info in Google's search box. What you get back is a list of pages found. With some, if not all, pages you see a link named Cached. Follow that link and you get to the saved (cached) version of that page. To give you an idea, enter site:line6.com "tweakfreak" compressor midi into the search box and see what comes out. Click on Cached to read what Google has retained for you.
Cleaning up Google Cache pages
The cache pages look a bit messy, so here is a tool to clean it up.
In a nutshell: you copy the contents of the page as cached by Google, and you drop it into the white box below. Then press Fix it! to perform the magic.
Detailed steps
- Go find a Line6 support page cached by Google.
- When you like what you see, put the cursor anywhere inside that page and click Ctrl-A. Now you have selected all content on the cached page.
- Then click Ctrl-C. The contents are now on your pc's clipboard.
- Now return to this page and position the cursor inside the white box below. Then press Ctrl-V. You will now see the page's contents in blue inside the white box.
- Press the Fix it! button.
Now keep in mind that this only works for cached pages of Line6 forum stuff, so don't expect anything more than that.
